The ten-page spread chronicles 24e’s incredible renovation of a former worker’s cottage, which dates back to 1868. Local design guru, Ruel Joyner of 24e, was approached by Jennifer Abshire, a PR firm CEO, and homeowner of the historic cottage on Jones Street that was in dire need of a major makeover. Abshire bought the downtown pied-a-terre to serve as a vacation rental retreat. She wanted to preserve as much of the 700 square foot cottage’s history as possible, while maximizing the potential of the space, making this renovation an exciting challenge.
According to Refresh magazine, Joyner employed principles of ship design -- economy of space and supreme functionality -- to rework the interior. “Because it’s a rental, we used materials that hold up to traffic,” said Joyner. “We wanted to translate Jennifer’s personality here. We tried to make it young, fresh, and feminine, but still solid.”
Abshire was pleased with the results of Joyner’s design. “I knew I was in expert hands with Ruel. He was able to meld my vision with his creative artistry and deliver beyond my expectations.”
